Cofrades Bideona
Cofrades wine comes from a small, ancient vineyard in the enclave of Leza, at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria mountains. Planted in 1945, this 0.72-hectare vineyard is a perfect example of the ecosystem of the region’s old vines. It is situated at an altitude of 562 meters, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation such as blackthorns and rosemary, in a poor, clay-limestone soil. What makes this vineyard special is its great diversity of vines, the result of old massal selections. Although Tempranillo is the main variety, other grapes such as Viura, Garnacha, Graciano, and Mencía can also be found.
The winemaking process focuses on respecting the personality of the area as much as possible. Both white and red grapes are harvested by hand and fermented together in stainless steel tanks. To preserve the complexity and flavor of the vineyard, very gentle extraction techniques are used. The aging of each vintage is adapted to its specific characteristics, with the goal of creating a wine that reflects the greatness of the old vines. The result is a wine with a deep and complex aroma, which combines the freshness and structure of its location in the Sierra with a unique elegance and silkiness.
